Inspiration : Graphic Design Agencies
Hey it's been awhile since I have been posting. I'm in my final week of my first semester before Christmas break and will be housesitting and watching cats, yay!
So on to the blog post, my "Intro to Graphic Design" class has been asked to share a favourite design firm and it can be local or somewhere else around the world. I decided to chose a local and non local firm.

Local
Holy Cow Communication Design
How Cow is a design firm located in my hometown, Sidney B.C and founded in 1997. When deciding what I wanted to do as a career, I visited their studio in grade 8 before entering high school to see what this career has to offer and was inspired. They have done work for Mayfair Shopping Center, Island Farms, Sidney Pier Hotel, Saanich Peninsula Hospital, and more. They are a full service firm and provide Graphic Design, Advertising, Copywriting, Branding, Marketing and Media Expertise
Worldwide
Bleed
While perusing around the internet, I found a design firm based in Oslo, Norway and Vienna, Austria founded by Svein Haakon Lia and Dag Solhaug Laska in 2000. Their moto is to "be different" and "take chances". Their work has a very clean and modern design look and a lot of their work also has a bit of an "edge" to it.Aker Brygge

Packaging, What I Like
On sort of another inspirational post, I will share some packaging that catches my eye
Japanese Packaging
I have always admired the style of how Japanese products are packaged and anything with Hello Kitty will definitely grab my attention.
Pretty much everything looks adorable...even these matches
This juice box also caught my eye, how clever.

(check this blog out for more interesting Japanese packaging)
Not so sure about my thoughts on this one...
More interesting packaging
Acne Pill I think?
Headphone Packaging
Something different! love it.
Jones sodas also has unique branding, each bottle has a different photo and the company asks it's consumers to send in their pictures to the company so they can publish them on their product.
But of course this was necessary ;)

An Artistic Journey My Favorite Things (Part two)
After talking about our blogs in "Intro to Graphic Design", it helped me figure out what else inspires me after my first post
Vintage
I love vintage; from the fashion, the music, pop culture, it's all awesome! I recently went to H&M and bought a fur vest and all my mom said was "For heavens sake, it looks like you stepped out of the seventies!!" I really like the british mod style as well and I own so many tops with the peter pan collar on them as well. Pattie Boyd, (who was married to George Harrison then Eric Clapton) style and look is also inspirational.
I also like old television shows as well, my favorite is definitely ''The Partridge Family ". My mom alsobought my sister and I "Gillian's Island", "Beverly Hillbillies" on DVD when we were young to watch.
Tintin Illustration
My best friend and I were super stoked on when the animated motion picture based on the comics was going to come out. I am certainly a fan of the artwork of the comics and the stories are fantasic. I haven't read much Tintin and I should certainly make time for it.
Indie Art
basically what I call "hipster art", produced by independent artists. I would use Tumblr as a source back in high school for inspiration for art projects and from time to time I will visit my account. I enjoy the different colours and textures used.

An Artistic Journey Of My Favorite Things
For school, we were asked to talked about what inspires us. A variety of things inspire me including art and music. This was certainly a difficult assignment and it took a while (plus a late night)
Andy Warhol
Artists
Andy Warhol
Andy has always been an inspiration for me for art. When doing a Pop Art unit in grade 9 art class, I became super interested in his work. It was a whole new look on art in his time as he lead the pop art movement. His art has always been a favorite of mine; I can honestly say I have been getting his calenders for years and I put the pictures up on my bedroom wall (and just fangirl). Overall, a bizarre but interesting person. My high school teacher made us all watch a ten minute video filmed by Andy on him eating a hamburger...what an artist.
Rene Magritte
Another artists work which was different at the time but always got peoples attention to stop and think. I remember doing a project on Rene in my french class which was a breath of fresh air from all the presentations on realism art. This work of his display here is a personal favorite as well as The False Mirror.
Roy Lichtenstein
Another of my favorite works, I enjoy the use of dramatic comic strips and turning them into a whole new look on pop art.
Music
To be honest, I actually don't have that certain musician who has inspired me. There are so many musicians including We Are The City, First Aid Kit, Radiohead, Gorillaz, Simon & Garfunkel, No Doubt, The Archers ( from Victoria, my hometown), Said The Whale, Crystal Castles and others whos music makes me happy to listen to. Playing in a band, I have experienced many opportunities and met many different people. I'm so lucky to have the musicians in Reverie in my life and basically call them family. I believe we help each other when it comes to producing our own music and just being there to talk to each other. This year, a big highlight for us was to play our own show at the world famous Butchart Gardens. What an exciting experience that was of course and it was crazy how fast it was over after all the preparation.
More Artwork
A number of times I have used Tumblr or Google images to get inspiration. I remember for a final project I got inspire by a post on Tumblr which helped turned the creative gears and I produced this...
It was inspired by a secret life of a super model, The black images are suppose to be faults. You might not be able to see it but her left eye has 'pink eye' and the cheek on the right contains blemishes.
Another post I while back was this one:
I actually think I found this on the TNA clothing website while internet window shopping. I like the different textures that were used and the colours as well....plus I thought it sort of resembled me :P
Recently I designed a logo for my band to use for promotional purposes. We were wanting to have a logo produced so one day I bought out the old sketchbook, looked at some images that inspired me including this one and produced the image below..
Final
The typography was also drawn out by me as well, I was super pleased with this and we even got shirts made as well at Incite.
I also have a liking for designs that are found on Threadless. For anyone who doesn't know what that is, it's basically a website where artists and designers produce and sell their own t-shirts with their design. I'm all for the indie/ street art look, here's some of my favorites that I found...
Lastly, I think this counts but I found this image on a track called "Deer In Japan" by one of my favorite bands from Vancouver called Oh No! Yoko. It has that surreal look to it and it has always been one of my favorite images
